THD Book Review
The Wall Street Journal: Complete Personal Finance Guidebook
About the Author: Jeff Opdyke is a financial reporter who has worked for The Wall Street Journal for the past twelve years. He also wrote Love and Money: A Life Guide to Financial Success.
About the Book: The Complete Personal Finance Guidebook is truly a back-to-basics personal finance book. Jeff Opdyke meticulously revisits each lesson we were taught about finances as a young, know-it-all teenager (at least we though we knew it all). Banking, savings plans, spending plans, credit cards, and taxes. It’s all there. Some might find this insulting. I however, found it quite refreshing. As I’ve stated in the past, I feel that it’s important to look at the smaller pieces of the puzzle from time to time. After all, how can you manage your investments when you can’t even manage your checkbook? Later in the book, Jeff does touch on topics like real estate, investments, and retirement, so this is not a complete beginners guide. Overall, the Complete Personal Finance Guidebook is extremely informative and an easy read.
