Store Brands vs. Brand Names
If you want to be a savvy consumer, here is the motto you should live by: Shop store brands over brand names! Applying this to your everyday shopping can save you big bucks! Especially when it comes to stocking your medicine cabinet! If you’re the least bit skeptical, next time you’re at the super market compare the active ingredients of your favorite brand name pain reliever to that of the store brand equivalent. They’re either exactly the same, or extremely close! Next compare them in price. I promise you’ll notice a significant price difference! This is because store brands don’t have the large advertising budgets of their counterparts so they can pass those savings on to you, their customer.
Where medication is concerned (prescription or over-the-counter), always consult your doctor before making a change. If you still have questions, you can find some great information at the Federal Trade Commission.

You must trust yourself more than you trust anyone else with your money.

I agree with this. I was in the store the other day looking for “airborne” since half of America seems to be sick right now and there was a TWO dollar difference between the name brand and Target brand. I have also noticed savings with food products, canned goods are around 10 cents cheaper, milk can have a couple dollar variance too depending on its labeling alone. For me and my family the list goes on and on with how we are able to save money buying “off” brand. The funny part is they really are all the same things! Thanks for the great tip and hopefully others will observe an easy way to save some $$$!

Attn. Jessica: It’s funny you mention Airborne. I also bought store brand Airborne recently and saved $1.34 compared to the brand name product. The active ingredients were exactly the same except the store brand had less sodium.

I SO agree with this! I used to be one of those name-brand snobs, until I realized all I was paying for was their fancy advertising!

Attn. Janelle: I was the worst with this. If it wasn’t name brand I wouldn’t buy it. I’ve come a long way since then.
